Three New U.S. Patents Awarded to NKI
NKI has been awarded three new patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for innovations related its burgeoning portfolio of eye tracking technology, bringing its total patent count up to 22. Among these latest is protection for unique aspects of NKI's I-PAS™ design -- a highly portable device for oculomotor testing involving clinically sensitive eye tracking. Looking similar to a virtual reality headset, the new design is just as easy to put on. After years of use for clinical investigations, FDA clearance is now pending for commercial use of I-PAS as a nystamograph, while concussion-related testing will still be investigational.

Research Shows Value of Eye Tracking mTBI Patients Over Time
A new paper describes the objective and effective use of I-Portal® technology to test and monitor mTBI patients over time. The authors conclude the testing paradigm will allow investigators to institute better treatments and provide more accurate return to activity advice. Six measures from five tests were found to classify control and mTBI patients with extremely high sensitivity and specificity.
19th US Patent Follows Another Eye Tracking Technology Breakthrough
NKI was issued its 19th U.S. patent covering eye pupil measurement and analysis. This new patent addresses separate stimulation of one pupil, while accurately measuring both the stimulated pupil and the un-stimulated pupil. Asymmetry in such a test is a key indicator of potentially serious health issues.

New Allegheny General Concussion Test Has Good Results
In a preliminary study, 292 high school athletes were followed for a season, starting with preseason testing and including testing after head injuries. Of the total, a device developed by Neuro Kinetics, Inc. correctly identified 10 out of 10 athletes with concussions who were tested between 48 hours and 72 hours after the injury.
Movement Test Assists in Diagnosis of Concussion
In research relevant to the gridiron and other kinds of battlefields, Allegheny Health Network and corporate partner Neuro Kinetics Inc. hope to use a new test based on eye movements to bring increased accuracy to the diagnosis of concussions. The research involves the use of high-speed digital photography and other technology to analyze a patient's tracking of dots of light or other visual stimuli, which are projected against a light or dark background.
