BUSY BUSY: READ ABOUT ENHANCEMENTS TO SOFTWARE & EQUIPMENT, PLUS NEW TESTS
It has been a busy few months. We’ve upgraded our VEST™ software to give users more control and new options for data analysis and generating detailed tracking of eye movements. And, continuing our mission of expanding clinical utility of our diagnosis equipment, now there are more tests that can be conducted on our devices. All so you can improve your diagnostic capability. Read an overview of the enhancements here and then read a more detailed update on improvements to the VEST™ software here.
SBIR GRANT CONTINUES DIABETC RETINOPATHY INNOVATION
We were recently awarded a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant to further the development of a new ophthalmic screening device and testing protocols for the detection and diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. The grant funds expanded clinical trials and the next phase of product design. Read our news release here. Our work to improve diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy is part of our push to expand the clinical utility of our I-Portal® technology and the range of tests than can conducted with the technological platform.
PROFILE: WHY ANN COLA-SCHUH SAYS “ONLY AS GOOD AS THE DIAGNOSIS”
Ann Cola-Schuh came to her love of audiology at an early age. She helped a facility dealing mostly with ENT conditions expand into balance and dizziness because “we had been seeing so many patients with dizzy problems that I knew we would be serving a real need in the community.” Now, as director of the Columbus (Ohio) Balance Center, a state-of-the-art facility offering a full array of vestibular testing, she pushes for collaboration and open communications among the audiologists, physical therapist and otolaryngologists at the clinic. “We can improve patient diagnosis by working together,” she says. “Treatment of a patient is only as good as the diagnosis.” Read her profile here.
OPINION: REIMBURSEMENTS ARE “VEXING MY PRACTICE”
Medical practitioners know all about problems with Medicare reimbursements. It can be a maddening – and financially draining – ordeal. Florida neurotologist J. Douglas Green, Jr, MD, FACS, founder of the Jacksonville Hearing & Balance Institute, says the system is inconsistent, time-wasting and fails to keep up with steadily improving diagnostic testing. He says that “current issues related to Medicare and private carrier reimbursements … have been vexing my practice and no doubt others as well.” Read his opinion here. Then check our “posts” page on the Web for more news about reimbursements.
KOREA RENEWED, CEO SEES GROWTH ACROSS ASIA
South Korea has one of the world’s highest per-capita usage of neuro-otologic testing equipment, such as our I-Portal® NOTC system. That’s one reason why we’re delighted to have renewed our independent sales representation relationship with Kwangwoo Medix, Inc., a leading Korean specialty medical device distributor that helped us years back enter that market and earn necessary regulatory approvals there. Said J. Howison Schroeder, Neuro Kinetics president and CEO, “Korea has been a particularly robust market for us and we look forward to expanding our presence there and across Asia.” Read more here.
