Research Finds That Concussions Loosen Myelin

A study of concussed University of British Columbia hockey players reveals that such athletes may need to remain on the bench even after they are no longer exhibiting symptoms. Detailed scans of concussed players showed that there was a loosening of myelin — the protective insulation that surrounds brain cells — for two weeks after an injury. Passing a concussion test may not be an indicator of true healing. Link
