Neuro Kinetics to Share $500K Research Award

The National Football League has awarded a $500,000 grant to O’Hara Township-based Neuro Kinetics Inc. and two universities to test the effectiveness of the company’s concussion detection device.

The NFL grant was one of seven announced by the football league and cosponsors Under Armour and GE Ventures as part of the Head Health Challenge II. Sharing the grant with Neuro Kinetics were medical schools at the University of Pittsburgh and University of Miami.

NKI’s device is called I-Portal, which measures how eyes move in response to a range of stimuli. In early trials, the device provided improved concussion detection by measuring post-injury eye movements against controls.
