IN SUPPORT OF BALANCE AWARENESS WEEK
We are delighted again this year to support the Vestibular Disorder Association’s (VEDA’s) Balance Awareness Week. The nationwide program kicks off in September and will include grassroots efforts to increase patient understanding of the various medical issues that can impact an individual’s balance and equilibrium. Audiologists and others are encouraged to get involved. Interested? Start by reviewing VEDA’s campaign details here.
FIRST EVIDENCE SUPPORTING AN OBJECTIVE METHOD OF CONCUSSION ASSESSMENT
A team of Allegheny Health Network physicians, along with our own Chief Technology Officer Dr. Alex Kiderman, have presented research findings indicating a significant breakthrough in the hunt for new and more effective diagnosis of traumatic brain injuries or concussions: The first evidence supporting an objective method of concussion assessment. The findings were presented at a recent meeting of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Said one of the presenters: ““We’re finding abnormalities that can’t be detected via MRI.” Read a newspaper report here and news release from the Allegheny Health Network here.
DR. HOWARD MANGO: “SPINNING THROUGH THE AGES”
Howard T. Mango, Ph.D. is founder and executive director of Newport Mesa Audiology Balance and Ear Institute (www.dizziland.com) located in Newport Beach, California, one of the most successful clinics of its type in the country. He is also a long-time user of our diagnostic equipment and testing protocols, including the Neuro Kinetics I-Portal® NOTC (Neurologic Test Center) Battery. Dr. Mango and his colleagues gave an informative, comprehensive talk at the recent American Academy Audiology’s AudiologyNOW conference in Orlando. You can look through the Powerpoint that accompanied the talk here.
A GRANDMOTHER’S PERSONAL TALE OF VERTIGO
Many of the medical professionals who use our equipment routinely see patients suffering from Vertigo. It can be a devastating condition that affects not only balance, but an individual’s confidence and ability to go about day-to-day life. A writer for the McClatchy-Tribune News Service recounts her bout of vertigo as she was on grandmother babysitting duty. Read it here.
